Plato's Atlantis

McQueen's Paris 2010 Ready to wear took the viewier on a mythical adventure or as he said himself ....
"an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world where humankind is made up of creatures evolved from the sea. We may be heading back to an underwater future as the ice caps dissolve".
The patterns on the dresses and use of colour are amazing and check out the shoes = mental! xc

How stellar was Mulberrys London Fashion Week Show.

splendour

Its Splendour time again in July and if you missed out on a ticket to see MGNT, Bloc Party and many more amazing acts you still may have a chance. Qjump has introduced a new system so that if you don't want your ticket you can sell it back to them which means there are more up for graps! I feel Drew at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee on Saturday is feeling the Splendour spirit!

act like a lady think like a man

Oprah was so impressed with this book that she asked the author Steve Harvey to come on back to her show for a whole hour of great advice for women. This no nonsense book tells women that chivalry is not dead its just not required anymore, women aren't raising the bar high enough because if a guy wants you there is nothing you can do to turn him off. You can pick up this handy guide from http://www.amozon.com/, i think its a must for every girls collection and so does the New York Times bestseller list!

immaculate beauty

Having never previously been a fan of Dita Von Teese I was surprised when I saw her whilst in Myer Sydney. She was their on behalf of MAC for which she was the face of their Viva-Glam lipstick (which raises funds for the prevention and awareness of aids.) I was really taken by how beautiful she was in real life. She was so immaculate in every way from her beautiful skin & her amazing makeup (which she always does herself!) to her petite body. Ever since I have enjoyed looking at her fashion images and her interesting choices. I feel that she pushes the boundaries of fashion with daring silhouettes which remind us that dressing with style and class is the most beautiful of all.I think she is someone to keep on mind when putting together you own individual look. xc

how to- red lips

Red Lips are a fantastic way to change up your usual makeup look. It may take a few trys to find a red that you like and feel comfortable with so its worth trying on a few. If you are brave a vibrant classic red ( think Gwen Stephani) is a beautiful look. Other times it can be a great idea to go for a darker red which is not as vibrant ( like Jessica Albas here) coral reds are also a beautiful option as they take the edge off and look amazing with bronzer. Always remember that when you go for a vibrant lip wear a light subtle eye shadow with a few coats of mascara to make your lips the stand out feature!

Some great options are ....
>Clinique Citrus Rose$36
>MAC in See She $35
>Estee Lauder in Rich Red $42
>Clarins in Orange Fizz $40

michelle's say- races fashion overview

In all good Aussie traditions, the foundations of our Spring Carnival culture are stronger than ever. Fashions on the Field started in 1962, its primary objectives being to draw more ladies to the races and 'finding the smartest dressed women at the Carnival within economic restraints'.

The prize pool naturally gets bigger and better every year, but, we have to pay homage to one woman who paved the way for today’s fashion race culture, English model Jean Shrimpton.

In 1965, Shrimpton caused a sensation in
Melbourne, when she arrived for the Victoria Derby race during Melbourne Cup week. She shocked everybody by wearing a daring white shift dress which ended 10 centimetres above her knees, accompanied by no hat, stockings or gloves. Shrimpton is the forerunner of the miniskirt which has since become a worldwide craze.

In 2008 although dress codes still apply nothing was shocking about the last of the MYER Fashions on the Field competition. It has wrapped up with both the National Women's Racewear and Milliner Award competitions. Shona Cowell Crown Oaks Daily Winner, Sarah Schofield AAMI Victoria Derby Day Winner, and the Emirates Melbourne Cup Day Winner, Kirsty MacGillivray competed to become the MYER Fashions on the Field Victorian representative. Kirsty MacGillivray was awarded this honour after parading her winning outfit.

how to- fake tan

1/The first thing you must do when fake tanning is go to the body shop & buy some of those exfoliation gloves $10. These are the best to use in the shower to completly exfoliate from head to toe.
2/Now tannig works best if it is done straight after you hop out of the shower after you have completly dried off
3/ Get your tan ( the tinted ones where you can actually see where you are applying work best) and massage it into the skin making sure that you pay special attention to elbows, knees ect and that there are no streaks.
4/ Wait the required amount of time before redressing and sleep in your tan over night laying some old towls in your bed as to not get on your sheets
5/ In the morning shower throughly and moisturise
Here are some tanning products I really recommend.
  • Model Co Tan In A Can $45- the original and probably the best gives the best colour but can be messy so do this in your shower OR wear medical gloves and spray it into your hands in a big pool and apply like a cream tan.
  • Ella Bache Cream Tan $40-Gives amazing/ natural colour but you need to put time aside for this one as it takes time to dry
  • Benefit Jiffy Tan $50- this product is the BEST its not actually a permanent fake tan but the ones that you apply and wash off with soap and water. It goes on so easily and gives the best colour and can be done right before you go out and you wont get that fake tan smell. It sets immediatly and wont rub off on clothing. great when you feel lazy

style flashback

I have chosen Carolyn as the first style flashback as when I was a young girl living in new york in the same town where she was born, her image was everywhere & her syle and beauty had a large impact on me. I vividly remember thinking how beautiful and classic she was then, and still is to this day.

Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was born in Jan 1966 in Westchester County New York. She studied at Boston University and work for Calvin Klein store in Boston. After moving to New York City she became a publicist for Calvin dressing many of his celebrity clients. It was there that she met Jonh F Kennedy Jr son of the famous JFK and style icon Jackie Onasis.Carolyn was a style icon known for her blonde hair, red lips and simple yet stylish dressing and was a favourite of the New York paparazzi. On July 16 1999 after taking off from a small aiport with John and her sister their plane crashed into the ocean with all three of them loosing their lives.
However her beautiful grace and style will live on and be copied for many years to come.

how to - eyeliner

Keira Knightly looked stunning recently at one of her premiers of The Dutches wearing Chanel. What pulled off this look was her beautiful smoky eyes and bold black eyeliner.

Black eyeliner can be a hard look to master and practise makes perfect. A great trick is keeping the eye open instead of pulling it out flat which can cause you to get a large gap between your lash line and the liner.Just lighly draw little flicks as close to the lash line as possible. If the line is not completly perfect just use an cotton tip to smudge over it. For a bolder look do the bottom lashes as well either all the way along for a very smoky look like kiera or just 3/4 of the way in to open up the eye area.

Some great liners I would recommend
  • Clinique Quick Eyes $34 in Dark Chocolate or Really Black, is so nice and smooth glides on so easily and stays.
  • Lancome $40 very bold and black but not so great for the bottom as the bold colour can smudge
  • Clarins $34 so butter soft that it comes out like a dream but the softer liners can be harder the master but worth it
  • Mac Liquid liner $34 have heard great things about this little baby app it stays the day
  • Chi Chi $15 these liners are cheap fixes and come in amazing colours if you want to try a smoky look with a dark charcole blue instead
  • Channel $40ish this is very conveinant as it winds up and you loose the hassel of sharpening.
ps.see The Dutches its great!c.
